Field Station 3 | River Stories

River Memory is a project that centers multigenerational memory as a prism through which to understand the interconnected threads of race, class, and labor that weave together St. Louis and East St. Louis. Through oral history collection with elders in these communities this project tells a deeply embodied story about how communities’ relationships with the river have grown more distant, more managed, by real and metaphorical corporate boundaries as the region’s industrial commerce has hemmed in civic action, environmental advocacy, and the work of social justice. This project takes the form of a podcast series accessible online and in the project hub space.
