Field Station 3 | Postnatural Landscapes
An Edible Narrative
The Postnatural Landscapes project presents a visible, materially enacted practice that “makes edible” thousands of years of human intervention and massive transformation of this earth. We activate seeds of the past (“Lost Crops”) and those of the present to help narrate the story of our food through postnaturally defined landscapes.Using food as a central point of reference, key themes of our region to be addressed will include: ancestry, extinction, diversity, conflict, and monoculture. The project asks questions not only of the paleohistory of plant growth, distribution, and ecology in the region, but also asks us to find meaning in these questions of our present and future landscapes as well.
