Owen Gaffney is a writer. He founded the website
http://anthropocene.info, the first educational website dedicated to the Anthropocene, and, together with Félix Pharand-Deschênes, he produced and directed the short film
Welcome to the Anthropocene. This was shown at the opening of the UN’s Rio+20 Summit. He has a degree in Astronautic and Aeronautic Engineering, and postgraduate qualifications in journalism and film production. Owen is Director of Communications at the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP), based in Stockholm. Paul Crutzen first floated the Anthropocene idea at an IGBP meeting. Owen is the former editor of the award-winning magazine
Planet Earth and in 2008 he set up the website
Planet Earth Online. He is also an editor of the sites

http://ocean-acidification.net/ (on ocean acidification). He is writing a novel on the Anthropocene.
