Franz Mauelshagen’s work as an environmental historian focuses on climate history and the Anthropocene. His recent research is on planetary politics, particularly the role of science-policy cooperation, climate engineering, the history of climatology, and modeling land use change and its earth system impacts. Recent publications include “The Dirty Metaphysics of Fossil Freedom” (2019), The Palgrave Handbook of Climate History (2018, co-editor), and Climate Change and Cultural Transition in Europe (2018, co-editor).
