Refractions of the Infrastructural Body
Curator and educator Margarida Mendes carries out research in Mississippi’s petrochemical corridor, otherwise known as “Cancer Alley.” This stretch of the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans houses many petrochemical facilities and consequently is contaminated by dangerous chemical pollution. Considering the relationships between the body, environment, and industry, Mendes speculates on the sonic residue of toxicity that impacts the bodies and immune responses of local residents.
