Yesenia Thibault-Picazo is a designer based in London. Defining herself as a “material teller,” she explores the narrative potential of materials and envisions the designer of today as a facilitator rather than a simple creator. In this sense, interdisciplinary collaborations constitute a crucial part of her practice. In 2013, Yesenia graduated from the MA “Textile Futures” course at Central Saint Martins, where she initiated the project “Craft in the Anthropocene.” Her diploma work is a material investigation that forecasts the future of geology, explores speculative narratives, and interrogates the evolution of our relationship with nature. Her pieces are time capsules from an imagined future; through the means of materiality, she aims to offer an experience relating to the complex concept of the Anthropocene. Yesenia is cofounder of the art direction and moving image studio IMMATTERS. Having trained from a young age as a classical violinist, she also composes electronic and acoustic music, played on various instruments. Her work has been presented internationally in renowned venues such as the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Salone del Mobile (Italy), Dutch Design Week, and at Les Abattoirs Museum in Toulouse during the “Anthropocene Monument” exhibition initiated by Bruno Latour and Bronislaw Szerszynski.
