Marie-Luce Nadal

Marie-Luce Nadal is an architect and visual artist based in Paris. Her work and research playfully revolve around the ambivalence of the principles of immanence and evanescence, appearing and fading. Climate change issues form the backdrop to her creations. Searching constantly for new experimental fields, she finds inspiration in the exploration of natural spaces, immersing herself in scientific laboratories, or questioning social movements and people’s obsessive drive for control. With this goal in mind, she borrows from the formal vocabulary of science to design machines and processes that summon up various phenomena, both mysterious and ephemeral. During the past few years, her research has consisted in interpreting and building artificial landscapes, based on her observation of environments and natural phenomena—especially atmospheric ones. Through sensitive installations, active sculptures, and performances, she aims to create relationships to our environment on a new scale, soliciting without moralizing, and realizing the existence of the invisible. Since 2012, Marie-Luce has been a PhD candidate at SACRe (Science, Arts, Creation, Research) at the research laboratory of the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (EnsadLab) and at PSL (Paris Sciences et Lettres) Research University. Her work has been shown in several institutions in Paris (including the Gaîté Lyrique and Palais de Tokyo) and worldwide (Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore Lasalle).
